The headline for Virgin Voyages © is "adults only" and that has a double meaning.  

Of course its no kids, nobody under 18 is allowed on board. You won't have all the usual annoying aspects of having kids on cruises - taking over the hot tubs, pressing every button in the lifts, screaming at dinner, running down the hallways etc. 

But it also implies guests are grown up, and less likely to be offended than your normal family group. Bingo is hosted by drag queens, for example. But it goes further than that. The crew assume everyone is there for a party, a happy time, a dance, and a drink. The young at heart will love it, but those who prefer to sit and admire artwork will prefer other lines. 

The food 

Food is something Virgin Voyages © do right, claiming 20 outlets and Michelin star chefs and no cost. There are half a dozen proper restaurants, with the rest being smaller food outlets for quick meals or snacks. The food is excellent, and free. It is massively ahead of the main dining room option on any similarly priced cruise. Every one of the restaurants is an adventure. And don't forget, every one of these restaurants is included in your fare.

There is no buffet, but the galley is a series of small food outlets, like a shopping centre food court. Each outlet does just a few items, and does them very well. You don't pile your plates high from multiple stalls, you get a meal from one of them - for example, when ordering a taco you don't just get a taco, you get a plate with 2 tacos, and some corn chips, and salsa. And you can get it brought to you at your table. And its not too busy. 

Of course there is also pizzas until the early morning, the hotdog bar, the ice cream shop, the tapas on the back deck, free room service, and more surprises scattered around the ship. And of course all included for no extra charge. Good luck trying everything. 

The food is truly amazing, and well worth all the awards it has won. 

The shows 

Shows on board are outstanding, far above anything I have seen sitting in a huge theatre on other ships. They don't tell you much about what you are booking for, but just leap in and see them. I know many people who made an extra effort to see one of the shows multiple times. In Virgin Voyages © words "think Romeo and Juliet reimagined in a circus". 

The crew 

The crew are amazing. They come from all over the world, but it feels like they are the best of the best. I have never come across a group so happy to be on board, so engaged with the passengers, or as much fun. Rumour is that they are better paid and treated than on other lines, and it certainly appears to be that way. 

The bottom line 

Virgin Voyages © are not like every other cruise line. If you like to spend your day chasing kids, or watching the artwork gather dust, or playing lawn bowls, then this is not the cruise for you. If you like being treated like you are on holidays, ready for a party, or like you are still young, then try a Virgin Voyage and see what all the buzz is about.
